Message from the board of directors about closing

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Community Members:

It is with great sadness that we announce Families First intends to permanently close following the end of the Winter Trimester after serving our community for over 40 years. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all who have been a part of our center's journey throughout the decades. For four decades, our center has been a nurturing environment where many children have embarked on their first classroom experience, building foundations for lifelong learning. We've cherished the opportunity to witness their growth, curiosity, and boundless potential.

However, due to various factors that impact our ability to continue providing our services, including the city’s plans for future use of the building and shifting educational landscapes, we have reached the difficult decision to close our doors following the end of the Winter Trimester. Currently, the last day that the center will be open to our members is Thursday, March 28th. [As part of the closing process, Families First will be directly coordinating with any member who has paid any membership fee for any time past this date to ensure full reimbursement of any membership amounts paid for periods after the closing.]

We want to extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated staff members: Alison Khalaf, Erin Burns, Mirjeta Maxhuni-Deda, (Amanda) Melissa Douglas, and Nanette DeCillis; as well as all of our past staff members, teachers, and directors who are too numerous to name (but you know who you are). They poured their passion, creativity, and love into every moment spent with our children. Their commitment to early childhood education has made a lasting impact on countless lives and Families First wouldn't have been the wonderful place it is without all of their time, commitment and love.

And to the families and caregivers who have entrusted us with the care and education of your precious children, we are so immensely grateful for your support and partnership over the years. Your involvement has enriched our community and made our center a vibrant hub of learning and growth. Thank you for over 40 years of trust, support, and cherished memories.

On a personal note, the board members are also all Families First families whose children were cared for and educated here. Please know that this decision was not an easy one and brings much sadness, but we hold onto the memories made in Practically Preschool classes, the playspace, library, in story time, music and yoga, snack room and library. We will always remember the joy felt at all our holiday parties and carnivals over the years.

While Families First may be closing, we hope you and your children will carry the spirit of it with you. We remain forever grateful for the privilege of serving your families.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Families First Board of Directors
