STEM for Preschoolers

Ages 2.5-4.5

Mondays at 1:10PM @ Families First: 250 Baltic Street

September 9-December 23(13 sessions)

This STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) class meets for 1 hour, and is a perfect supplement to half-day preschool programs. Little scientists will create hypotheses, conduct experiments, build and count, using simple items and supplies. Children may build a bridge using straws vs. popsicle sticks to compare strength vs. flexibility, or melt multi-colored ice with salt to contrast with untouched ice. Children may be dropped off in the classroom.

Stop Motion Animation

Grades 2-4

BYO iPad

Bring your aspiring filmmaker to this new after-school class to learn and experiment with stop-motion animation! Your child will create storyboards and develop sets using Legos, clay, puppets, and other materials to shoot commercials, music videos or movie trailers. Students will then edit using iMovie on iPad (you just bring the iPad), and can add music and text to the images, too! Children will also learn basic rules of photography and video (aperture, lighting, and video effects) with a camera provided by the instructor, Mariana Zenteno. Mariana holds a BFA from NYU in Photography & Imaging, and was a filmmaking instructor for 8-16 year old children at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival in 2017.
